Race Preview

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Homestead-Miami Speedway, and luckily for the regulars of the series, 18-year old Ty Gibbs, who won in his first-career start last weekend, will not be racing.

The NXS raced at Homestead twice last season in back-to-back days. The first of those races was won by Joe Gibbs Racing’s Harrison Burton, while Chase Briscoe — now a rookie in the NASCAR Cup Series — won the other.

Burton will look to score his second win at Homestead from the third starting position. Last season, Burton started from the pole, but he didn’t lead until the final two laps of the first race of the weekend as he stunned Noah Gragson, who had led a race-high 83 laps. Burton finished eighth in the second NXS race of the weekend at Homestead.

Gragson, who has had a rough start to the 2021 season, will look to get momentum heading in the right direction for his No. 9 JR Motorsports team. In addition to leading the most laps and finishing third in the opening Homestead race last season, he also finished fifth in race two at the 1.5-mile speedway after leading 81 laps. Although he starts 23rd, this race presents a huge opportunity for Gragson.

And then there is Austin Cindric, who has started the season with two-straight top-two finishes. He will start from the pole and is expected to be — at the very least — the early dominator of this event. It would not be surprising to see Cindric end up in victory lane as his 1.5-mile performance drastically improved as the season went on last year.
