Video: Fair or Foul?! Here is Joey Logano’s Winning Shove on William Byron at Darlington

Joey Logano William Byron Darlington finish 2022
Joey Logano sent William Byron into the wall with two laps to go to take the lead and win in the 2022 Goodyear 400 at Darlington.

Driver etiquette will be a hot topic this week as Joey Logano put the bumper to William Byron to take the lead and win in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway.

While most feel anything is fair game on the final lap for a race win, Logano initiated contact on Byron with two laps left. The contact was such a hard shove, that it sent Byron’s No. 24 machine into the outside wall.

After the dust settled, Logano was in victory lane and Byron had skidded to a disappointing 13th-place finish.

Here is the controversial finish, which led to Joey Logano’s first points-paying win of the 2022 season:

Following the race, Logano stated that the contact was intentional and that it was payback from an incident on track with around 25 laps remaining.

Here is the incident Logano was peeved about:

So, the question is: Was Joey Logano’s move on William Byron fair or foul? Did Logano cross the line? Or did he simply do what is expected in the current Playoff format, where wins are rewarded with a Playoffs appearance?

  1. Dale Senior made his entire name doing exactly this for years. Byron was losing his tires and left him wobbling…..Logano was going faster than him at that particular moment. I watched the clip of Byron actions that Logano was using for justification and didn’t see much, so that wasn’t much help. What SHOCKED me was the complete silence in the TV booth from Mike Joy and both veterans…..finally Elliott said “yeah, he drove right thru him.” Again, I don’t see it being any different than a race Earnhardt wanted to win.. Isn’t this how he got the name Intimidator??? just sayin’
