CONCORD, N.C. — Persistent rain forced NASCAR’s hand on Friday evening, as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway has been postponed until Saturday, May 23, at 8:00 AM ET. The race will be televised on FS1.
NASCAR had moved the initial start of Friday’s race up by 52 minutes, which allowed the pace car to pace the field around the 1.5-mile speedway for a few pace laps. However, Mother Nature intervened before the green flag could be displayed, and the race never officially got underway on Friday evening.
When the race goes green, Corey Day will lead the field to the green flag. Day is driving the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, a truck that Kyle Busch was scheduled to drive this week. Tragically, Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, died at the age of 41 on Thursday evening after a battle with a severe illness, which necessitated hospitalization.
Day secured the pole position for Saturday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race due to NASCAR’s Performance Metric Formula, as qualifying was also washed out on Friday afternoon. Busch, who won last weekend’s NASCAR Truck Series event at Dover Motor Speedway from the pole position, secured the top performance metric score from last weekend’s race, which led to the top qualifying spot for the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet.
Incredibly, Busch was able to top the field one last time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
Layne Riggs will lineup alongside Day on the front row for Saturday’s rescheduled race.
