Race Preview
The NASCAR Xfinity Series Solders on to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the fourth of 33 races in the 2021 schedule, and hometown boy Noah Gragson will be looking for blood.
Gragson has had a fast car in each of the opening three races of the season, but has no finishes higher than 28th. This past week at Homestead was especially heartbreaking for Gragson, as he had a nine second lead coming to two laps to go, when the 12th-place car of David Starr had a tire come apart ahead of him.
Starr shot up the track and Gragson slammed into the back of him, ending his race.
In four previous starts at his home track, Gragson has three top-five finishes and four top-10s. Last fall, Gragson scored his best LVMS finish in a second-place effort. Can he overcome starting in 34th to snag his first win of the season?
If the combination of starting in the back and bad luck haunt Gragson for another week, Austin Cindric would be a solid bet for the race win. Cindric, who is defending his 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship, has started the season off with three-straight top-five finishes, including a win at Daytona. Cindric will start second, so he’ll be close to the lead early and potentially often.
Coming off his first-career win, Myatt Snider will look to make it two in a row in the Richard Childress Racing No. 2 machine. Snider had incredible composure on the final restart last week, after spinning his tires on the next to last restart. That experience of pressure-packed situations last week, could come into play this week and help Snider grab another victory.
If you’re looking for a first-time winner this weekend (the 2021 NASCAR season has been full of them so far) look no further than Daniel Hemric (starting third) and Jeb Burton (starting fifth).
Burton, who performed incredibly in spot duty at JR Motorsports the last couple of seasons, has been lights out so far for Kaulig Racing in 2021. Burton has not finished outside the top-five through three races, and he is showing no signs of slowing down. The son of Ward Burton could get it done this weekend.
For Hemric, a win this weekend would be incredible. He’s had 90 races in his NASCAR Xfinity Series career, and 178 total starts in the NASCAR National Series ranks through his career and he still has yet to reach victory lane.
Hemric has obvious talent (evidenced by his seven runner-up finishes in NXS). It just feels like the time is getting near for that win, as he has three top-10 finishes heading into the fourth race of his tenure in Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 ride.
