While Dexter Bean hasn’t exactly been the most frequent competitor in the NASCAR Xfinity Series over the years – running a total of 25 events since returning to the series for his second start in 2015 – it’s become evident that the 34-year-old has begun feeling comfortable behind the wheel, after notching another top-20 effort in Saturday’s Contender Boats 250.
In his first start at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Bean brought his No. 90 Badger Environment and Earthworks Chevrolet Camaro home on the lead-lap in 17th-place, joining full-time teammate Alex Labbe in scoring the first double top-20 result of the season for DGM Racing.
For the Westby, Wisconsin-native, it’s his second consecutive top-20 finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series – after finishing 16th last time out at Kansas Speedway (2020) – and the third of his career, all of which have come in his last 10 starts for DGM Racing.
“I was happy to maintain early in the race while adjusting the car and learning the racetrack, so we could capitalize at the end.” Bean told TobyChristie.com on Monday. “I’m happy with the results since it was my first time competing at [Homestead-Miami Speedway]. It was rewarding for all the hard work that gets put into getting them ready.”
For Bean, the full extent of what’s next is a complete unknown, as his endeavors in the NASCAR Xfinity Series usually come about on a week-to-week basis, based on the needs of team owner Mario Gosselin.
As of now, Bean says that he’s scheduled to drive the No. 90 for DGM Racing in the series’ next two events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Phoenix Raceway, two tracks that he’s run in the NASCAR Xfinity Series before, recording finishes of 35th and 29th, respectively.
“I’m looking forward to the next two races,” said Bean. “Since I have been to these tracks before, we will be able to push for a better finish each week.”
For the time being, Bean will look to improve upon his impressive outing last June at Pocono Raceway, where the driver ran as high as seventh, before falling back to a career-best 11th-place finish.
When Bean isn’t behind the wheel of a DGM Racing Chevrolet, you never know where at the track you will see him. In the season-opener at Daytona, the 34-year-old was listed as the crew chief for Mario Gosselin’s No. 91 Chevrolet, which ultimately failed to make the race because of the cancellation of time trials.
