Sunday will not mark a Texas two-step for Team Penske’s Joey Logano, after Logano saw his day come to an early end due to a crash on pit road on Lap 94 in Sunday’s Wurth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, who was seeking his second consecutive win at the 1.5-mile oval in Fort Worth, TX, was exiting his pit stall when chaos ensued in front of him.
Cole Custer was attempting to get into his pit stall when he was told to stop by his pit crew, as Ty Gibbs was exiting his pit stall as Custer was approaching. Logano, who was accelerating and focusing on hitting his marks on pit road, didn’t see Custer slowing down in time, and plowed directly into the back of Custer’s No. 41 Haas Factory Team Chevrolet.

The massive damage done to the left front of Logano’s car was enough to put him out of the race, as the left front wheel and suspension were sheared away in the crash.
It’s the continuation of a wildly inconsistent 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season for Logano.
“Trying to look up, and trying to get out of the way, and they just stopped. There was nothing I could do. I couldn’t stop in time. So, it’s been a tough year to say the least,” Logano said after being evaluated and released from the infield care center.
While it was another disappointing afternoon for Logano, he took solace in the fact that his No. 22 Ford was very quick on Sunday.
“Proud of the speed we had today. The Discount Tire Mustang had good speed,” Logano stated. “Speed capable of going up there and running, you know, at the end of that long run, there at the end of the Stage, we were one of the best, if not the best car, which makes it hurt even more to be honest with you.”
While Logano has had three highlights in the form of third-place finishes in the Daytona 500 and at Martinsville Speedway, and a seventh-place run at Bristol Motor Speedway, the rest of the season has been filled with finishes of 15th or worse.
With his early exit from Sunday’s race at Texas, Logano will now record three consecutive finishes of 30th-or-worse.
Logano was credited with a 30th-place result at Kansas Speedway three races ago, and was 39th after a Lap 115 crash at Talladega Superspeedway a week ago.
