Austin Dillon Damages Car in Opening Practice, Will Not Go to Backup Car

For Austin Dillon, things are setting up to be a jam-packed weekend. He is slated to drive in the K&N Pro West Series event at Sonoma Raceway in addition to his normal Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series duties. Near the end of opening Cup Series practice at the iconic road course in wine country, Dillon slipped in turn 11 and made contact with the tire barrier.

The contact caused significant damage to Dillon’s No. 3 Dow Chemicals Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

The damage turned out to be mostly cosmetic and the Richard Childress Racing team has made repairs to the car. Dillon will slide back into the primary No. 3 car for final practice for Sunday’s Toyota Save Mart 350.
