At the conclusion of Tuesday’s second and final 50-minute practice session for the 2022 Daytona 500, it was the Ford Mustangs that claimed the top-10 positions on the speed charts for the NASCAR Cup Series’ season-opener.

It was a late-session drafting effort between the three Team Penske drivers, and Harrison Burton, that put Ryan Blaney (46.732 seconds) and Joey Logano (46.842 seconds) first and second, respectively.

With the major storyline of limited backup cars available to teams, large drafting packs were scarce in the two sessions. However, Austin Cindric and Joey Logano proved that you don’t need a large pack to have close calls.

Cole Custer, Cody Ware, and Chris Buescher rounded out the top-five in the session, getting together in a six-car draft earlier in the session to put up their fast laps in the second practice.

At one point in the session, Ware, who drives the No. 51 entry for Rick Ware Racing, had his window net pop loose. Ware drove for several laps with the window net down.

Harrison Burton, Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric, Brad Keselowski and Aric Almirola rounded out the top-10 Ford domination of Practice 2 at Daytona.

Kaz Grala, driving the No. 50 TMT Racing Chevrolet, was the fastest non-chartered driver in 22nd. Noah Gragson (32nd), Greg Biffle (36th), Timmy Hill (40th), Jacques Villeneuve (41st) and JJ Yeley (42nd) were the remaining non-chartered drivers in the session.
