GMS Race Cars announced on Thursday that it has acquired the SRX Racing Series key racing assets from Ray Evernham Enterprises, including the complete vehicle fleet and equipment formerly utilized in the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) from 2021 to 2023.

While GMS Race Cars did not specify its plans for the assets, the company did say that the plans will be made available in a future announcement.

GMS Race Cars says it has possession of the 16 fully assembled race cars, the pit equipment, race-day infrastructure, and select spare parts, and that the transaction is part of a strategic expansion for the company.

“These race cars were built to an incredibly high standard by Ray, with durability, drivability, and performance in mind,” said Joey Cohen, President at GMS Race Cars. “Our team sees a huge opportunity to take these vehicles into a new era, repurposing them for premium track-day experiences, turnkey customer programs, and specialty racing events across the country. The possibilities are endless.”

GMS Race Cars is also aligned with sister company GMS Fabrication, which will allow the cars to remain fresh regardless of what the plans are for the future.

“This acquisition is a major step forward for GMS Fabrication as well,” said Mike Beam, President of GMS Fabrication. “Our fabrication teams are central to every racing effort, and we’re excited to lead this next chapter with the craftsmanship and pride that GMS is known for.”

Evernham, who was the co-founder of the SRX Racing Series and was the man who came up with the design of the race cars that were used in the series, which ran for three seasons, is happy to see the assets from the now-dormant series going to capable hands.

“It’s incredibly gratifying to see these cars live on in a new format,” said Ray Evernham, founder of Ray Evernham Enterprises. “We built them to be durable, lively, and fun — whether in the hands of champions or first-timers. GMS Race Cars is the perfect group to carry that torch forward and put smiles on a whole new generation of drivers.”

While GMS Race Cars did acquire the assets from the SRX Racing Series, GMS did not acquire the SRX brand, trademarks, or future broadcast rights. Additionally, GMS states it has no affiliation with SRX Series operations.

Tony Stewart was the inaugural SRX Racing Series champion in 2021, while Marco Andretti was the series champion in 2022, and Ryan Newman won the final SRX Racing Series title in 2023. The Series was set for a return in 2024, but the operation shuttered before the 2024 season was able to begin.
