Marco Andretti was named the 2022 Camping World SRX Series champion after breaking his wrist in the season finale at Sharon Speedway.

Despite not capturing a win during the 2022 Camping World SRX Series season, and breaking his wrist in a late-race crash Saturday night at Sharon Speedway, Marco Andretti finished ninth and captured the series championship.

Andretti finished the season ahead of Ryan Newman, who finished eighth on Saturday night, by two points.

Andretti was involved in a pair of incidents in the race, but thanks the stout SRX cars for being able to take a hit and keep on going in these races.

“The cool thing about this is, you get damage you can still play and stay on the lead lap,” Andretti explained. “I broke my wrist in that last little thing, I got my thumb caught in the wheel. It was a painful last couple of laps. I just wanted to recover and finish right where I needed to finish, and we were able to do that.”

While Andretti captured the championship, Chase Elliott scored his second SRX victory in his second-ever start. The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion outdueled Tony Stewart, the 2021 SRX champion, in a fantastic battle for the win.

So, what was the best part of the win for Elliott?

“To sit there and race on dirt with one of my heroes there in Tony Stewart and throw a couple of sliders with him, obviously, this is a little different than the open wheel stuff, but just knowing how good he is at this stuff and being able to dice is up with him,” an elated Elliott said.

Following Elliott and Stewart in third was Matt Kenseth, who was involved in a Heat 1 crash on Lap 2, which eliminated him for most of the evening.

Ryan Hunter-Reay and Bobby Labonte rounded out the top-five finishers in the race.
