Felix Sabates who has been an owner, or partial owner in the NASCAR Cup Series since 1989, is set to retire according to an exclusive conversation with the Associated Press.

Sabates, who has been a partner with Chip Ganassi Racing since 2001, when Ganassi came to NASCAR, scored seven victories in NASCAR’s top series as a car owner from 1989 to 2000.

This past season, CGR had both of their drivers — Kurt Busch and Kyle Larson — win a race and make the NASCAR Playoffs.

Overall, Sabates has been a part of 50 wins in NASCAR including some crown jewel triumphs like the Daytona 500, Brickyard 400 and the All-Star Race.
