In a season where so much has gone right, you have to expect something to go wrong. Right? For Andres Perez de Lara, who holds a 53-point lead over his Rev Racing teammate Lavar Scott in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings, things are going right.

However, in a video interview with the ARCA Menards Series social media team this week, the driver’s season seemingly got flipped upside down. As the chat at the Rev Racing team shop in Concord, North Carolina begins, the interviewer who was speaking in the interview freely to both Perez de Lara and Scott, shocked Perez de Lara with some breaking news.

“I don’t know what the penalty is you’re talking about, but the ARCA points they have out this morning, I know you know about it, they took away 50 points,” the interviewer stated. “So, with it being closer going into Kansas…”

Perez de Lara looks absolutely stunned in the video and immediately whips his head around toward his teammate Scott, who mid-question interrupts the interviewer and asks for clarification.

“Wait, they took 50 points from him,” Scott says pointing his finger at Perez de Lara.

A confused Perez de Lara, now thinking he holds a slim three-point lead over Scott, is left reeling, and that’s where the video cuts off.

Obviously, the video was nothing more than a vicious joke, a ribbing if you will. But you could tell by Perez de Lara’s honest real-time reactions that he thought he had really been docked 50 championship points. Fortunately, he can head into this week’s event at Kansas Speedway with a sigh of relief as he still holds a comfortable point lead over Scott and the rest of the ARCA Menards Series field.
