UPDATE: 9:30 PM ET: Grant Enfinger’s mechanical failure will not be repaired, and he is out of the race. He will miss the second round of the Playoffs as a result. The problem was a blown rear main seal in the engine.
Grant Enfinger’s hopes were high to chase his first-career NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series championship after securing the regular season championship a few weeks ago. However, heading into Friday night’s elimination race at Las Vegas, Enfinger had just a two-point advantage over Johnny Sauter for the final Playoff advance position.
On lap six, something happened to the power-train on the No. 98 truck and a plum of smoke shot up behind him. It looked like he blew the motor, but the team is reporting that the engine is still running in the garage. However, it looks like Enfinger’s post-season hopes are dashed.
