Connecticut road racing ace Scott Heckert will make his 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series debut this weekend in the Pit Boss 250 at Circuit of the Americas, driving the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro for BJ McLeod Motorsports.
Heckert will have primary sponsorship from Malco Automotive for the event.
Team co-owner BJ McLeod is pumped to see Heckert get behind the wheel at COTA.
“We are excited to have Scott race for BJMM at the Pit Boss 250,” said McLeod. “Scott has proven himself behind the wheel to be an experienced and talented road course driver. We look forward to seeing how Heckert preforms in his first race of the 2022 season in Austin, TX.”
Heckert, who moved from being a stock car driver to being a sports car driver in 2016, made a real name for himself winning races in the Pirelli World Challenge. Now, Heckert is ready to apply his sports car knowledge at COTA to this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race.
“COTA is one of my favorite tracks I’ve been to and I’ve had good success here in sports car racing,” said driver, Scott Heckert. “In 2018, I won the 24 hours of COTA so it’ll be interesting to see how that knowledge transfers over to stock car racing. Talking with BJ and seeing the speed so far in in 2022, I feel like the team has really been pushing hard and I know it’ll show this weekend.”
The 28-year old driver has a degree in mechanical engineering from Miami University and before turning to sports car in the mid-2010’s, Heckert scored four wins in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, and he finished second overall in the 2015 K&N East Series point standings. All four wins came on road courses.
