Fun news for Ryan Preece fans, the driver of the No. 37 JTG Daugherty Racing machine in the NASCAR Cup Series will take it back to his roots on Friday as he has entered to run the Lincoln Tech Open 80 at Stafford Speedway.

Preece won this event a season ago, and is expected to be in the mix for the win yet again this year. Stafford Speedway is located in Stafford, CT. Preece is a long-time modified competitor, who has 22 wins and a championship in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour as well as an additional three wins in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Stafford Speedway website, with general admission adult tickets priced at $30.

Preece has had a tough sophomore season in the NASCAR Cup Series, as he sits 30th in the championship standings after 23 events. However, he had a decent showing at the Daytona Road Course this past weekend as he finished inside the top-10 in both Stages 1 and 2, and finished the race in 23rd.

  1. I’m sure the money is better in Cup. But unless you start as a development driver for one of the top owners, you are unlikely to become a multiple race winner in Cup. You just won’t have the cutting edge equipment necessary for multiple victories. I’d rather see Ryan back in the modifieds where he has the knowledge and equipment to compete for the wins. It can’t be that much fun to be a back-marker with an underfunded team in Cup.
