The long-debated social media war of number placement is likely on its way to its climactic end, via a new report from Sports Business Journal.

According to a report by Adam Stern of SBJ, NASCAR is potentially getting set to announce in the coming weeks that the numbers will move forward, instead of backward.

Ever since the 2020 NASCAR All-Star Race, NASCAR has been toying around with the number placement for the future of the sport, with Next Gen on the way. A NASCAR Fan Council Survey in early March of 2020 showcased six different options of placement, from window decals to quarter panels.

At Bristol the same year, NASCAR moved the numbers back for the All-Star Race to a mix of reviews from fans, and execution effort by teams and sponsors.

Many fans on social media have put their own spin on the number placement debate, with forward placement becoming a popular choice among the design community.

Carey: The All-Star Number Placement is a Great Idea

Stern reports that an official announcement on the decision could come in the next few weeks.
