It’s not looking like it will be a popular move, but on Friday Evening, NASCAR officially confirmed that the teams of the NASCAR Cup Series will see the number placement on their entries slid forward, specifically under the portion of the car that has held the series logo, in what is also commonly known as the “RTA space”.

FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass confirmed this announcement shorty after the official announcement of Kurt Busch joining 23XI Racing, which featured a show car with the new number placement guidelines for the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.

The confirmation comes after over a year of discussion between the sanctioning body, the Race Team Alliance and the various owners involved in the NASCAR Cup Series. In these discussions, a number of options were explored, including pushing the numbers backwards and removing them from the door completely.

In this process, extensive market research was carried out to try and determine any potential ROI gains that the move would have for sponsors.
