Pre-Race Preview

John Hunter Nemechek’s gamble to drop from the NASCAR Cup Series back to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with Kyle Busch Motorsports for the 2021 season, is already beginning to pay off. The 23-year old scored a win in just his third start with the organization in Las Vegas, and he’ll look to make it two in a row, starting from the pole in Atlanta.

Nemechek has led laps in every race this season and he has an average finish of 3.7 through the first three events of 2021.

If Nemechek is going to score the win though, he’ll more than likely have to deal with his boss Kyle Busch, who will start from the outside pole. Busch had a tire failure at Las Vegas and after spinning out, rallied to finish runner-up to Nemechek.

While you always expect Busch to be in the mix for the Truck Series win, he has been extremely potent at Atlanta in NCWTS competition. In 12 starts, Busch has five wins and eight top-three finishes at the 1.54-mile speedway. Busch, however, has finished outside the top-20 in three of his last four Truck Series races in Atlanta.

Another couple of drivers who could be considered favorites on Saturday would be last year’s winner of this race, Grant Enfinger and Austin Hill, who finished runner-up.

Hill, who is running a full-time schedule in 2021, has a much higher starting spot in sixth, while Enfinger will have to rally from 19th in the No. 98 ThorSport Racing truck, which he’s shared with Christian Eckes this season.
