Video: Dawson Cram Suffers Brake Failure, Pounds Outside Wall at Pocono

The first start of the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season for the No. 74 Mike Harmon Racing team didn’t last long, and it came to a spectacular end on Lap 2 of Saturday’s Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 at Pocono Raceway.

As the team’s driver Dawson Cram entered Turn 1 at the end of the Long Pond Straightaway, the brake pedal went to the floor, and Cram knew he was in trouble. The driver ducked down to the apron, which helped him get the No. 74 Chevrolet to spin, which allowed him to reduce the impact of the crash some.

Had Cram not thought fast enough to make that maneuver, it likely would have been a very hard front-end impact. Instead, Cram backed the car hard into the outside wall.

Fortunately, Cram was able to walk away from the scary crash, but he’ll be credited with a dead-last finish of 38th after completing just one lap in Saturday’s race at Pocono.

Heading into this weekend, the Mike Harmon Racing team had attempted, and failed, to make the race in all five of its attempts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season. While they will be taking a destroyed race car back home, at least they have the silver lining of knowing they had the chance to race this weekend.
