The biggest potential road block to a return to NASCAR racing has officially gone by the wayside.

On Thursday, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper stated that although the state’s stay at home order will continue thru at least May 8th, that NASCAR teams can resume working at their race shops as they have officially been deemed essential businesses.

“From the information I have now, already, under our state’s executive order (race teams) can begin working in their garages as an essential business defined under our executive order,” said Cooper.

Still, there is no official word on when NASCAR Racing will resume, but the hottest rumor has swirled around getting the Coca-Cola 600 ran on it’s scheduled Memorial Day weekend.

Whether that, or any other race at another track — such as Darlington, Atlanta, Homestead or Texas — in the weeks leading up to that, becomes reality remains to be seen, but Tuesday’s announcement from Governor Cooper was a huge step for NASCAR returning to the real-life race track.
