Kyle Larson came into Saturday night’s Hangtown 100 main event with the overall event points lead, and he had earned the top starting spot for the race. However, his son Owen was in charge of drawing the field invert, which ended up being 12.

This meant, Larson would have to drop to 12th in the 28-car field to start the main event.

Larson was still mired in 12th, when on lap 12, he was caught up in an accident with Brenham Crouch and Tanner Carrick. This sent Larson to the work area of the track, and he would drop to 27th-place.

The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion would keep his head down and keep working his way back through the field. By lap 60, Larson had incredibly worked his way to sixth-place, but then, misfortune struck again for the 29-year old.

On lap 67, Larson went flipping over the cushion in turn 1.

This incident sent Larson back to around 24th with just 33 laps remaining in the prestigious USAC midget sprint event.

Larson was working his way through the field, yet again, and while he didn’t have time to win the feature race and the $20,000 prize, he still had a chance for the $12,000 event point championship.

However, with 12 laps to go, Larson went for yet another spin, which doomed his chances for any big payout on Saturday night.

Larson would finish 18th in the race at his hometrack in Placerville, California.

Here are the full video highlights from Saturday night’s main event at Placerville, which shows the tough luck Larson endured throughout the event:

Chase Elliott, Larson’s Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR teammate failed to make it into the main event by way of the heat races and semi events leading up to the big show, but he got the final entry into the field by way of a promoters provisional.

Elliott had a quiet race in the No. 9E car, which was fielded by Larson. Elliott would finish 20th overall in the feature event.

Justin Grant took the victory in the Hangtown 100 main event and collected the huge $20,000 payday. Meanwhile, Logan Seavey, who finished in third, did just enough to score the event points title, which netted him a $12,000 payday.
