Martins Motorsports, under the rebranded Alpha Prime Racing (APR), has its eyes on significant gains for 2022 with a new name and a new rotation of drivers for the team’s flagship No. 44 Camaro.
It’s a change that Tommy Joe Martins has long sought and is ready to help the organization grow as its inaugural season under the new name is just three months away.
The team’s growth will be seen nearly instantly as Martins exclusively told TobyChristie.com that APR will field a second entry for “some” of the races on the Xfinity Series schedule for 2022.
“As of now, the speedways of Daytona and Talladega, we are planning on running two cars,” Martins told TobyChristie.com. “I’d look for us to bring two to some of the road course races.”

The decision as to which races the part-time entry will run come down to what sponsorship and driver demand there are for the team next season. Martins tells TobyChristie.com that he is eyeing “somewhere around six to eight races,” with the debut for the entry expected at the season opener at Daytona in February.
The Mississippi driver is taking a hard look at the road courses for the second entry to make an appearance at, only mentioning that entry is anticipated for “some” of those races. Between both superspeedways and road courses, ten races sit in the pool of potential races for the second entry to appear under the APR banner.
The driver roster for APR in 2022 features a wide range from youth to veteran experience between its revolving door of drivers. The roster includes Martins, Caesar Bacarella, Rajah Caruth, Ryan Ellis, and Andy Lally.
With the new sponsor of Alpha Prime, Bacarella, who is CEO of the brand, could make his 2022 debut with APR at the season opener at Daytona. APR is expected to confirm their driver lineup for Daytona in the near future.
The debut driver of the second entry, number, and sponsor for the car will be announced at a later date.
