Video: Daniel Suarez Goes for Spin While Trying to Blend into Pack at Talladega

A rough start to the day, thanks to penalties assessed for unapproved adjustments to Daniel Suarez’s No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, have compounded as Suarez was sent spinning down the backstretch on Lap 13 of Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Suarez, who was being lapped by the thundering pack of cars, which were roughly 10 mph faster than he was on his own, attempted to blend in an effort to latch onto the draft of the cars in the pack. Unfortunately, he misjudged it, and contacted BJ McLeod’s No. 78 Chevrolet.

The contact sent Suarez into the outside wall, and the No. 99 car then darted to the inside of the track, where Suarez would spin out onto the apron. After his car stalled on track, and he lost an additional laps, Suarez was able to get back to pit road, where his team could work on the car.

Suarez sits 40th, two laps off the pace on Lap 17, but fortunately for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoff contender, he’s still running.
