Video: Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain Crash Hard Coming to End of Stage 2 at Talladega

The No. 12 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, driven by defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney, is destroyed after a hellacious wreck coming to the end of the second stage in Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Blaney was in the middle of a three-wide situation coming to the end of the stage when a bump from Alex Bowman sent the Team Penske driver sideways.

The No. 12 drifted to the inside and made slight contact with Shane Van Gisbergen, before snapping back to the outside wall, collecting Ross Chastain in a major, major impact to the SAFER barrier.

In a chain-reaction-style accident, Joey Logano got into the back of his Team Penske teammate, with Denny Hamlin making contact with the rear bumper of Logano’s No. 22 Ford Mustang.

Corey LaJoie also sustained some damage to his No. 51 Ford Mustang Dark Horse in this incident.

Ross Chastain, driver of the No. 1 Busch Light Camo Chevrolet, was able to climb from his Trackhouse Racing machine under his own power. The Alva, Florida native was the most recent winner in the NASCAR Cup Series at Kansas.

Despite some major damage, Ryan Blaney was able to complete several pace laps in his No. 12 Pennzoil / Menards Ford Mustang, before his racecar finally gave out, forcing him to stop on the backstretch and climb from his car.

Blaney entered Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway with a 28-point advantage over ninth-place in points, Tyler Reddick.
