It’s been a rough weekend for last week’s NASCAR Cup Series winner — Chase Elliott.
After rain wiped out qualifying for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington, Chase Elliott missed the field for that race. Then, on Saturday morning, Elliott cut a tire on the 15th lap of his run, spun around and pounded the outside wall in turn 3.

Bet the No. 9 team would love to throwback to before this lap. pic.twitter.com/xUySjaBA8f

Elliott’s No. 9 throwback, which is honoring Jimmy Means, was absolutely destroyed, and he’ll need to go to a backup car for Sunday’s Goodyear 400.
After being checked and released from the infield care center, Elliott spoke about the crash:

Says he lost a left-rear, couldn’t slow down in time. #NASCAR pic.twitter.com/X70lVmjVvs
