Video: Chase Elliott Cuts Tire, Crashes Hard in Cup Series Practice at Darlington

Chase Elliott cut a tire in NASCAR Cup Series practice and went hard into the outside wall. He’ll have to go to a backup car for Sunday’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington.

It’s been a rough weekend for last week’s NASCAR Cup Series winner — Chase Elliott.

After rain wiped out qualifying for Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington, Chase Elliott missed the field for that race. Then, on Saturday morning, Elliott cut a tire on the 15th lap of his run, spun around and pounded the outside wall in turn 3.

Elliott’s No. 9 throwback, which is honoring Jimmy Means, was absolutely destroyed, and he’ll need to go to a backup car for Sunday’s Goodyear 400.

After being checked and released from the infield care center, Elliott spoke about the crash:
