Anthony Alfredo, who ran part-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2019 with DGR Crosley and part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2020 with Richard Childress Racing, could be looking to moving into a full-time NASCAR Cup Series role in 2021 for Front Row Motorsports. According to a new report from Sports Business Journal’s Adam Stern, which cites sources that say Alfredo is in talks with FRM about filling the seat for their open No. 38 machine this season.
TobyChristie.com reached out to a Front Row Motorsports representative for a comment or confirmation on the report. The team rep states there is nothing to confirm at this time in regards to the report, and instead said, “We are hopeful to make announcements about our driver line up early in the New Year.”
This statement does fall in line with the usual timing of driver roster announcements for the team in recent seasons.
Alfredo, also known as Fast Pasta, has been ascending up the NASCAR ladder in quick order due to his knack for producing results on the track in limited opportunities. The 21-year old scored two top-10 finishes in 13 Truck Series starts in ’19, while this past season he exploded for two top-fives and nine top-10 finishes in 19 Xfinity Series starts.
Alfredo’s career-best Xfinity Series finish is a third-place effort at Texas last fall. The Connecticut-native has yet to make a NASCAR Cup Series start in his career.
Front Row Motorsports has been looking for a successor in it’s No. 38 machine since it was vacated by John Hunter Nemechek, who opted to move to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series full-time in 2021 with Kyle Busch Motorsports.
Alfredo fits the mold of a JHN. He’s a young and talented driver with a lot of upside. If Alfredo does ultimately get the call to run the No. 38 in 2021, there is a chance that he could surprise quite a few people as FRM was a team on the rise this past season.
The team’s long-time veteran driver Michael McDowell enjoyed the best season of his 13-year NASCAR Cup Series career. McDowell scored four top-10 finishes (double his previous best), he finished a career best 23rd in the championship standings and he had a career best average finish of 20.9.
McDowell also finished on the lead lap in 23 races in 2020, his previous best total was 12 lead lap finishes in 2017. That stat gives you the best peek into the performance boost for the Front Row Motorsports team in 2020.
