SS-GreenLight Racing is bringing 2023 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion Cole Custer into the fray for a five-race campaign in NASCAR’s second-tier division, the team announced Friday.

Custer, a full-time competitor in the NASCAR Cup Series for Haas Factory Team, will get behind the wheel of the No. 0 Chevrolet Camaro a handful of times this season. An exact schedule of events for Custer was not released.

“Having Cole [Custer] back in our car is an honor; we’ve been lucky to share success, and we hope to have more this season,” said Bobby Dotter, owner of SS-GreenLight Racing. “We are stepping up our program with lease motors and new personnel, and Cole will be a big part of that effort.”

A native of Ladera Ranch, California, Custer is a 15-time winner in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, and spent several seasons (across multiple stints) being a leader in the second-tier division with Stewart-Haas Racing (now Haas Factory Team).

This won’t be the first interaction between Custer and SS-GreenLight Racing, though. In 2022, the 27-year-old driver ran a five-race schedule for the team in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, and collected a victory at Auto Club Speedway, a third-place result at Circuit of The Americas, and another top-10 at Pocono Raceway.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to return to the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and compete with SS-GreenLight Racing and Chevrolet,” said NASCAR Cup Series race-winner Cole Custer. “I’m really looking forward to working with Bobby [Dotter] and the entire team over these five races. Our goal is to have strong runs every time we unload and put ourselves in position to race for wins and get to Victory Lane.”

Custer joins a driver lineup for SS-GreenLight Racing that includes two others in the No. 0 Chevrolet Camaro. Garrett Smithley will take on the majority of the driving duties in the entry this season, while Alex Labbe has been tasked with a five-race schedule, as well, running the No. 0 on the road courses — starting at Circuit of The Americas.

As far as the NASCAR Cup Series regular is concerned, additional details regarding sponsorship and an exact race schedule will be announced at a later date.
