Alex Bowman Steals Pocono Victory After Kyle Larson Cuts Tire in Final Turn

It was Alex Bowman who found himself celebrating in victory lane at the end of the race, but it didn’t look like the Tucson, Arizona-native was poised to do so until the final lap of the event, when Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson blew a tire in the final corner of the race, slamming the outside wall and handing the lead back to the No. 48.

Bowman led 16 of the race’s final 19 lap, initially stealing the lead on a late-race restart by choosing the inside lane, clearing his Hendrick Motorsports teammate until inside of five laps to go, when Larson was able to drive by him and cruise out ahead of the field.

Larson, whose right front tire exploded off of turn two, made significant contact with the turn three wall and eventually, the turn one wall, coasting home to a ninth-place finish.

Kyle Busch – who led the most laps in Saturday Afternoon’s Pocono Organics CBD 325 — finished in the runner-up position, with William Byron, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney rounding out the top-five finishers. Kurt Busch secured another solid top-10 finish in sixth-place, with Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson and Brad Keselowski rounding out the top-10.

Eight cautions – four for on-track incidents — slowed the pace of the event on Saturday, with the race’s average speed registering at 165.562mph. Cole Custer, Ross Chastain, Corey LaJoie, Anthony Alfredo and Ryan Newman were all victims of incidents throughout the event.
