After an eventful show full of twists and turns at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the ARCA Menards Series travels to the heartland of America in Newton, Iowa for the Calypso 150 and the Iowa Speedway.

The ARCA Series has made the trip to the .875-mile paved oval since 2006 with Steve Wallace taking the inaugural win at the track.

Since then, winners have included Frank Kimmel, Parker Kligerman, Ty Dillon, Grant Enfinger, Chase Briscoe, Ty Gibbs, and the series’ most recent winner at Iowa, Brandon Jones.

Joining the series this weekend are the drivers and teams of the ARCA Menards Series East. This event is the first of four straight combination races for the ARCA East Series to round off the 2023 season.

Interesting Stories Heading into Iowa

Heading into this weekend’s 150 laps, one driver in contention for the ARCA Menards Series East title will be on the bench.

After late-race actions at Mid-Ohio, 16-year-old Sean Hingorani will be out after being suspended for one race by ARCA Menards Series officials.

The Newport Beach, CA native currently sits third in the East Series standings, just 22 back of points leader Sammy Smith. Venturini Motorsports have tapped Conner Jones to hop behind the wheel of the No. 15.

Joining Jones from the Venturini stable this weekend are current ARCA points leader Jesse Love and Toni Breidinger. After overcoming some gremlins to bring home his No. 20 Toyota in fourth at Mid-Ohio, he will look to pad his points lead.

Heading into Iowa, Love currently sits 43 points ahead of the second. In three starts at the Newton, Iowa facility he has one top-10 and one pole.

Sitting second in the points to Love is ARCA Rookie Frankie Muniz. Heading into the ninth race of the season, the 37-year-old has six top-10s and is just 43 back of the leader. The Ridgewood, NJ native has been knocking on the door of a top-five and he’s pushing himself for it.

Looking at the East Series regulars, rookie and Berlin winner William Sawalich continues his bid for the East Series title. With just four races left, the 16-year-old driver has two wins this season and sits a slim 13 points ahead of second-place.

Joining him, and sitting just behind him in points is Luke Fenhaus. The Wausau, Wisconsin native is coming off some momentum with a win at the Fairgrounds and a second-place finish in the 2023 Slinger Nationals.

Other notables include the Rev Racing cars for Lavar Scott and Anders Perez de Lara, Zachary Tinkle and Brayton Laster for FastTrack Racing, Tony Cosentino returning after sitting out Mid-Ohio, Jon Garrett, Scott Melton, and several others.
