Report: Richard Childress Racing, Erebus Working Towards 2024 Adelaide 500 Run for Kyle Busch

Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and Erebus Motorsport are working towards fielding a wildcard entry in the 2024 Adelaide 500 for Kyle Busch, a two-time champion of the NASCAR Cup Series, per a report from V8 Sleuth.

The two championship-caliber outfits will look to bolster their relationship further, which this season, expanded to include a NASCAR Cup Series debut for Brodie Kostecki at Indy’s Road Course in August.

Per the report, talks are underway that could potentially see Busch contesting a one-off in Supercars for 2024, with the Adelaide 500 being the perfect candidate, as the only event that falls outside of the intense NASCAR Cup Series schedule.

Per the report, talks are underway that could potentially see Busch contesting a one-off in Supercars for 2024, with the Adelaide 500 being the perfect candidate, as the only event that falls outside of the NASCAR Cup Series calendar.

“We’ve talked to him some about coming,” Childress told V8 Sleuth in regards to Busch running Adelaide. “I think he might one of these days. He’d enjoy this. The track’s good, right, the kind of racing that he’d like. I think he’d do good over here.”

In recent months, a large part of the interest in Erebus Motorsport has been the organization’s ability to assist Richard Childress Racing in improving its road course program, amid a drastic increase in non-oval events on the schedule in recent years.

Those strides to improve will continue this week, as Brodie Kostecki will return to the United States to co-drive an endurance race at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) with NASCAR Cup Series drivers Austin Dillon and Kyle Busch.

It’s part of an ongoing effort to have the programs work hand-in-hand, as Erebus Motorsport plans to field a part-time entry in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2024, per an October report from AutoAction.

This past weekend, Childress, owner of Richard Childress Racing, visited the Supercars season-finale as a guest of Erebus Motorsport, watching on as Brodie Kostecki went on to capture the 2023 Repco Supercars championship.

There may be one small barrier to Busch competing in the Adelaide 500 next season, though, as the race isn’t typically one in which Supercars allows a wildcard entry. However, Barry Ryan, CEO of Erebus Motorsport, doesn’t think that will be a major obstacle.

“We were at the state dinner the other night and the [South Australian] Premier came up and said he wanted him [Childress] to bring Kyle [Busch] back next year, so I think we could make it happen,” added Ryan.

At this time, no official announcements have been made by any of the involved parties.
