The beginning of NASCAR Cup Series practice at Auto Club Speedway has been eventful, first with Kevin Harvick’s early contact in turn four, and now with a massive impact for Ross Chastain into the outside wall.

The accident looks to have been caused by a broken part on Chastain’s No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet Camaro, sending the car directly into the outside wall with incredible force.

Shown in the background of the replay of Chastain’s accident, you can see Chris Buescher’s No. 17 RFK Racing Ford Mustang spinning around in turn three. It is unclear if the car snapped around on its own, or if the spin was the result of contact.

Ross Chastain has since been checked and released from the infield care center, telling FOX Sports that he had the wind knocked out of him, and wanted to take some time to collect his thoughts.
