Video: Ryan Newman Shoves Tommy Baldwin Jr. in Heated Exchange at Franklin County Speedway

Ryan Newman, and Tommy Baldwin Jr., two respected names in the NASCAR world and in the Motorsports world in general, had a heated encounter following Friday night’s SMART Modified Tour Kenny Minter Classic at Franklin County Speedway in Virginia.

Newman, who was competing in the race against Baldwin’s son Luke Baldwin, was upset about being used up on a restart by the younger Baldwin with eight laps remaining in the race.

Both drivers had been racing for the win, after the contact, both drivers saw their respective shots at the win fade.

Carson Loftin would take the win in the SMART Modified Tour event while Baldwin would finish in the runner-up position.

Danny Bohn and Joey Coulter, who have both spent stints in the NASCAR National Series ranks, finished third and fourth, and Newman was relegated to a fifth-place finish.

Following the race, Newman attempted to hash it out with the younger Baldwin, when his father intervened.

In a video shared to X by Ethan Hoffman, Newman is heard shouting “Shut up,” at Baldwin Jr., to which Baldwin shouts back, “You shut up,” and Newman jabs back with one more, “shut up.”

Newman, still visibly fuming about the on-track incident tells Baldwin, “He drove me into the fucking fence.”

As Baldwin Jr. attempts to defend his son with an explanation, Newman cuts him off and asks, “Are you the one driving the car?”

Baldwin answers with no, to which Newman responds with, “Then shut the fuck up, and go back to your pits.”

Things continue to get heated with several more F-bombs between the two, and as the intensity ramps up, Newman delivers a massive shove to Baldwin’s chest, which pushes the elder Baldwin back a few feet.

After the shove, several crew members step in between the two men, and Luke Baldwin actually begins to keep his father held back from the seething Newman.

”Let him go,” Baldwin Jr. shouts, “I tried talking to him, but he doesn’t fucking listen.”

The two then shout obscenities back and forth a few more times before Baldwin Jr. states, “You fucking touch him, I’ll beat your fucking ass.”

Newman responds with, “You ain’t driving the car, I’ll talk to your boy.”

It’s around this time that it appears a resolution will not be found and the two angry men go their separate ways.
