Ty Majeski won the pole for the second race in 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Playoffs ahead of a top-10 filled with championship contenders.

Track conditions played a role as many drivers slipped and slid on their opening lap in qualifying around the worn out 0.750-mile short track. Majeski ran the bottom line to run a 22.579 sec. lap time, which was good enough to secure his third career NCWTS pole position, all three have been accomplished this season.

Chandler Smith will start alongside on the front-row and was 0.019 sec. slower than Majeski. The No. 52 Halmar-Friesen Toyota Tundra of Stewart Friesen qualified third and clocked a lap time 0.108 sec. behind the pole-sitter.

Layne Riggs making only his second start in the NCWTS accomplished a fourth-place qualifying effort behind his teammate, Friesen. Grant Enfinger, Zane Smith, John Hunter Nemechek, Chase Purdy, Christian Eckes and Matt DiBenedetto rounded out the top-10 starting spots.

With 42 trucks vying for just 36 starting spots, this meant that six drivers would not make the field. The drivers that will not compete in Saturday night’s Worldwide Express 250 are Tyler Hill, Brennan Poole, Justin Carroll, Trey Hutchens, Mason Maggio and Norm Benning.

This was the first qualifying session for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Richmond Raceway since 2005. The Truck Series returned to the venue in 2020, but there was no qualifying scheduled for the last two seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A clean practice opened up the afternoon and had 42 drivers take to the track. Five playoff contenders filled the top-10 with impressive showings from DiBenedetto and Rajah Caruth, slotted in fourth and fifth.

Playoff competitors, Zane Smith, Friesen and Eckes, were all outside top-20 with their lap times.
