Brandonbilt Motorsports, which has been attempting to secure funding for the conclusion of the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, made a driver change announcement on Saturday. Kris Wright, who had driven every NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event for Niece Motorsports heading into Richmond, will slide behind the wheel of the No. 68 car in NXS competition.

According to the release from Brandonbilt Motorsports, Wright will drive the No. 68 car in nine of the remaining 12 NASCAR Xfinity Series events, beginning with next weekend’s race at Watkins Glen International.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to be back in the NASCAR Xfinity Series garage, and surrounded by a great team, Brandonbilt Motorsports,” Wright said in a press release. “The team has been super helpful in trying to acclimate me into the No. 68 Chevrolet Camaro for the majority of the remainder of the 2022 season.”

In addition to Watkins Glen, Wright will pilot the No. 68 car at Darlington, Kansas, Bristol, Charlotte Roval, Las Vegas, Homestead, Martinsville and Phoenix.

For BMS, Watkins Glen couldn’t be a better place to get things started with Wright.

“We are excited to partner with Kris,” Jerry Brown, BMS team owner said. “Kris has shown enormous potential in just a few short years in stock cars and even more-so in stock cars on road courses. Watkins Glen is the perfect place for this relationship to kick-off.”

Wright, 28, had a rough go at it in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this season, as he had failed to score a top-10 finish in the opening 17 races of the year. Wright sat 26th in the championship standings before opting to jump to the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

The Pennsylvania-native has seven NASCAR Xfinity Series starts in his career, with a best finish of 17th coming at Watkins Glen in 2021.

Wright, who has eight top-10 finishes in 13-career ARCA Menards Series starts, will hope to bring that type of consistency to the NASCAR Xfinity Series with a team that has been quite competitive over the last few seasons.
