Video: Joey Gases Crashes, Rips Rear Bumper Off No. 35 and Throws it at Dawson Cram

That’s certainly a new one…

Joey Gase unleashed his inner hulk at Richmond Raceway on Saturday, following an on-track incident in the final stage of the ToyotaCare 250 that saw his No. 35 Chevrolet Camaro destroyed in the first set of corners, after contact with Dawson Cram at the end of the frontstretch.

The owner-driver was running outside the top 25 at the time of the incident, but after climbing out of his racecar, it was evident that the NASCAR Xfinity Series veteran was understandably upset with the driver of the No. 4 JD Motorsports Chevrolet.

But, what came next may just be one of the oddest post-crash moments in NASCAR history — a similar level of weirdness measuring to a ground-tackling fight between Spencer Gallagher and John Wes Townley at Gateway several years ago.

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa-native proceeded to rip the rear-bumper cover off his No. 35 Chevrolet, walk down the racetrack with it in hand — which will certainly be frowned upon by NASCAR — and throw it directly at the windshield of the NASCAR Xfinity Series rookie.

Exiting the infield care center, Gase spoke to members of the media about his displeasure.

“I just wanted to give him a souvenir and let him know what he did,” Gase said upon exiting the infield care center, “I gave the kid his first-ever start, I believe, in Xfinity, and he comes over and borrows our tools and parts and pieces every week, and he’s a good kid, but he loses his head every frickin’ race. He always has speed, but he loses his head literally every race. If you look at every race this year he has speed but he shoots himself in the food every week.”

“Honestly, we were going to take two cars next week, but now being a small team, I don’t know if we can do that, that car is killed.”

Gase will likely be credited with a 34th-place finish at the end of it all, while Cram continues on undamaged after their late-race scuffle.
