Video: Chase Briscoe Makes Incredible Save With Broken Shock and Flat Right Rear Tire

My goodness. Chase Briscoe just proved anyone wrong who may have doubted Stewart-Haas Racing’s decision to move him to the No. 14 machine in 2021 in the NASCAR Cup Series. Nearing the end of Stage 1 of Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway, Briscoe’s No. 98 car broke loose in turn three while battling Brandon Jones for the Stage Win.

At first glance, it looked like Briscoe had slipped in the traction compound in the high groove, but that wasn’t the case.

Turns out Briscoe had a shock that broke in the right rear, and subsequently, he had the right rear tire cut down as well. Somehow, he saved a car with a broken shock and a flat right rear tire from spinning in a turn at a 1.5-mile track. Absolutely incredible.

The No. 98 team surveyed the issues with the suspension for a couple of laps on pit road, but ultimately pushed the car behind the wall. They may get the car fixed to return to the track, but their shot at the win is definitely over. However, they still have a car in one piece and that is the absolute best case scenario given what transpired with a few laps left in Stage 1.
