Sam Mayer hasn’t had the strongest start to his Xfinity Series career, entering Saturday’s race with three DNF’s in six starts.

The issues for the team continued when a transmission failure caused Mayer to go behind the wall just past Stage 1.

Prior to the conclusion of Stage 1, Mayer was racing around the top ten, then suddenly began to fall back. Car No. 8 was brought down pit road and Mayer could not get the car into fourth gear.

After being unable to resolve the issue, Mayer took his No. 8 Camaro to the garage in an effort to fix the transmission.

As of this publishing, Mayer’s car remains behind the wall. Should he not return, it would mark his fourth DNF in seven starts for JR Motorsports in 2021.
