It was only a matter of time.

Going over 95 laps in the season-opening NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Daytona without a major accident, was a recipe for a massive accident, and it happened as the field was coming to the white flag.

The accident started when Christian Eckes threw a late block on Tyler Ankrum, sending the No. 16 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro in front of the pack, collecting a massive number of tracks, most of which were still on the lead lap.

According to the #TobyTacker (tracking incidents in NASCAR’s top-three series), a total of 20 trucks were involved in the lap 99 accident, as follows:

Matt Crafton, Tyler Ankrum, Grant Enfinger, Hailie Deegan, Derek Kraus, Colby Howard, Thad Moffitt, Blaine Perkins, John Hunter Nemechek, Austin Wayne Self, Parker Kligerman, Jesse Little, Christian Eckes, Lawless Alan, Chandler Smith, Riley Herbst, Spencer Boyd, Austin Hill, Ty Majeski, and Stewart Friesen were all involved in the accident.

As of now, Ankrum, Enfinger, Crafton, Perkins, and Howard are the only trucks to retire from the event, due to the accident, but that list will likely grow as the caution period continues.
