Video: Highlights From Truck Series Race at Watkins Glen (Before Lightning)

Lightning has halted the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series United Rentals 176 at Watkins Glen International with 11 laps remaining in the event. Austin Hill holds the lead, and would be the winner if the race is called, but the race could still reach it’s conclusion as well, if weather moves out of the area quickly.

Before the lightning delay, the Truck Series race was very competitive, which led to many crumpled fenders and — for some — crushed Playoff hopes.

In turn 1 of the opening lap, the action got started immediately when John Hunter Nemechek made contact with Ben  Rhodes, which caused a stack up which also included Chandler Smith and Carson Hocevar.

Just a lap later, Tate Fogleman went for a ride in the bus stop:

Chad Chastain — Ross Chastain’s brother — was running excellent in his first NASCAR Truck Series start, as he was turning top-10 laptimes, but then he overcooked turn 1 on lap 6. This incident brought out the first caution of the day.

Todd Gilliland dominated the opening Stage of the race and took the Stage 1 win.

Austin Hill then went on to snag the Stage 2 win:

On lap 52, Derek Kraus went around for a spin into the wall after contact with AJ Allmendinger to bring out a caution. This incident effectively ends any hope Kraus has at making the 2021 Playoffs:

And then on lap 60, caution waved for lightning and the red flag was displayed.
