Video: Jimmie Johnson Slaps Wall in Stage 2 at Texas While Running 10th

Jimmie Johnson just continues to find misfortune. In Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, Johnson had finished seventh in Stage 1, and was running in 10th on lap 115.

Then, coming off of turn four, Johnson wiggled and slapped the outside wall in his No. 48 Ally Chevrolet.

The contact with the wall badly damaged Johnson’s right side. To add insult to injury, while making repairs to the car, his team had an extra crewman over the wall, which resulted in a two-lap penalty.

Two weeks ago, Johnson missed the Brickyard 400 after he recorded a positive COVID-19 test. The following week at Kentucky Speedway, Johnson was running third late in the event, when contact on a restart with Brad Keselowski ruined his finish.

Johnson came into the race as the final man in Playoff contention and was just 24 points ahead of the first man outside the bubble.
