Austin Cindric’s paint scheme for what will hopefully be his first-career NASCAR Cup Series start in the 2021 Daytona 500 has been released. Cindric’s No. 33 machine will sport the black, red and white colors of Verizon, and it will carry a huge “5G” logo on the hood of the Ford Mustang.
Cindric revealed the news on Twitter on Tuesday.
Really excited to share that @Verizon will be on both of my Ford Mustangs @DAYTONA!!
To have such a recognizable brand like Verizon on my car is way cool for me. I grew up cheering for Verizon Team Penske racecars, and now I get to drive one. pic.twitter.com/BisAGMM0u9— Austin Cindric (@AustinCindric) January 26, 2021
It’s a bold, fresh scheme and it renews Team Penske’s partnership with Verizon, which had it’s initial stint in the NASCAR Cup Series with logo-less cars in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series era.
That original NASCAR partnership began in 2009 and lasted through 2010. The car had Verizon V’s cutting through it’s black paint scheme, but without being allowed to put the Verizon logo on the car, the hood just had a Penske Racing logo instead.
This time around, with no mobile carrier providing exclusive naming rights for the series, Team Penske and Verizon are allowed to go wild on their branding on the No. 33 car.
Cindric also revealed in the Tweet that Verizon will provide sponsorship of his No. 22 Team Penske NASCAR Xfinity Series entry in the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway. Cindric is the defending champion and is looking to take back-to-back championships in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
