Missouri’s Kyle Weatherman has put up a showcase of consistency over his last three NASCAR Xfinity Series starts for Mike Harmon Racing, the latest of which was an eighth-place effort at Kentucky Speedway in Thursday’s Shady Rays 200. The finish marked Weatherman’s career-best effort in NXS competition, as well as the best finish ever for a MHR entry in the series.

“We literally just finished eighth in our No. 47 Back the Blue Mike Harmon Racing car. Absolutely amazing day,” and emotional Weatherman stated in a post-race video posted to Twitter.

Weatherman, 22, had another solid top-15 secured, but when chaos ensued during the final green-white-checkered finish, he was able to dodge the mayhem for a next-level finish.

“Obviously, it was definitely crazy on that last lap, we were three wide going into turn three, and actually came across the finish line in eighth,” said Weatherman. “I can’t thank everybody has gotten me to this point — my family — there are so many people who have gotten me to this point and I really hope this is just the beginning. I appreciate everyone’s support.”

The No. 47 team has featured Back the Blue on their race cars several times in 2020, including Thursday night at Kentucky. The great run was made even more special by the fact that the team was honoring fallen police officer Jason “JJ” Judd. Judd’s name was above the passenger door of the car.

Over his last three starts, Weatherman has three consecutive top-15 finishes, which is an incredible feat in itself for an underdog racer and team. But when you factor in that Mike Harmon Racing only had one top-15 finish as an organization in their 11 years of existence in the Xfinity Series heading into the 2020 season, you truly get a sense for how special the run Weatherman has been on really is.

Weatherman will look to better his new career-best finish of eighth Friday night as the NASCAR Xfinity Series returns to Kentucky Speedway for the Alsco 300.
