Shane van Gisbergen is batting 1.000 over the last two NASCAR Xfinity Series race weekends. On Saturday, the driver of the No. 97 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet emerged victorious after a heated late-race battle with Austin Hill on the final restart of the Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 250 at Sonoma Raceway.

With contact, SVG got around Hill with 11 laps remaining and he never looked back as he took the win by a margin of 1.323 seconds over Sheldon Creed, who surged to his ninth-career runner-up finish in the closing laps.

After the race, SVG’s race-winning No. 97 WeatherTech Chevrolet Camaro was taken to post-race inspection, where it received a passing grade. As a result, NASCAR declared van Gisbergen and his team the official winners of the race.

This is SVG’s second-career NASCAR Xfinity Series win, which comes a week after his first-career win at Portland International Raceway. SVG now has three NASCAR National Series wins on his record as he won last year’s NASCAR Cup Series street race in Chicago, which was his NASCAR Cup debut.

The No. 21 car and the No. 39 car had one unsecured lug nut in post-race tech, which will result in fines for their crew chiefs.

There were no other issues in post-race inspection, which means all results and standings following Saturday’s race are now considered official.

Creed was the official runner-up finisher ahead of Sam Mayer, Austin Green, and Austin Hill, who clawed for a fifth-place finish.

For Green, who was making his third-career start, this was a career-best finish.

Justin Allgaier, Chandler Smith, John Hunter Nemechek, Cole Custer, and Parker Kligerman rounded out the top-10 finishers in Saturday’s race at the 1.99-mile 12-turn road course.
