Man, Austin Green lost his primary car for Saturday’s NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Pit Boss/FoodMaxx 250 at Sonoma Raceway, but after a terrifying crash in Friday’s practice session, Green was fortunate to be able to walk away.
Heading into the final hairpin turn around the 1.99-mile road course, Green experienced a brake failure. As he attempted to get his No. 87 Peterson Racing Chevrolet slowed down for the ultra-slow right-hand turn, the car went straight into the tire barriers.

The impact was so hard that Green’s car actually broke the concrete barriers placed behind the tire barriers, which separate the hairpin turn from the pit road entrance.
Green was able to exit the car under his own power, and the damage to the concrete barriers and tire barrier led to a lengthy red flag period during NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series practice. But again, the thankful thing is that Green was seemingly alright after the scary crash.
Prior to the crash, Green turned a lap time good enough for 23rd-fastest in the practice session.
Corey Day was the fastest driver in the session, as he clocked in ahead of Shane van Gisbergen, Jesse Love, Connor Zilisch, and Justin Allgaier.
