Mike Harmon Racing Crew Chief Teddy Brown Suspended After Being Arrested For Habitual Misdemeanor Assault

On Friday, NASCAR announced that Mike Harmon Racing crew chief Teddy Brown has been suspended indefinitely by the sanctioning body for actions described as, “behavioral,” on the weekly penalty report. According to the penalty report, Brown violated sections 12.8.1.e of the NASCAR rule book.

According to Statesville.com, it appears that Brown’s suspension has come due to a June 8th arrest for Habitual Misdemeanor Assault in Iredell County, North Carolina.

This would qualify as a class H Felony in the state of North Carolina.

In the report, Brown 48, who was apprehended by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, had a $10,000 bond.

NCLEG.org states that a person commits the offense of habitual misdemeanor assault if that person violates any of the provisions of G.S. 14-33 and causes physical injury, or G.S. 14-34, and has two or more prior convictions for either misdemeanor or felony assault, with the earlier of the two prior convictions occurring no more than 15 years prior to the date of the current violation.

A representative from Mike Harmon Racing tells TobyChristie.com that they will not be making a statement on the suspension of Brown at this time.

Brown was previously arrested on November 13, 2017 on two counts of assault by strangulation inflicting serious injury. He was released on $1,500 bond for that arrest.

On May 18, 2018, Brown was convicted on both charges and was sentenced to two years of supervised probation.

Brown, who has one top-10 finish as a crew chief in 33-career Xfinity Series races. Brown has been serving as the crew chief on the No. 74 entry for MHR. This week, Bruce Cook will take Brown’s spot atop the pit box.

The No. 74 team sits 33rd in the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series owner points heading into this weekend’s Pocono Green 225 at Pocono Raceway.
