LASTCAR: Erik Jones Makes History in Charlotte

Each and every week, Brock Beard at LASTCAR.info breaks down the last place finish for the past week’s NASCAR National Series events. For the second consecutive week, Beard’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series breakdown has focused on Erik Jones.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver found misfortune in the Monster Energy All-Star Race a couple of weeks ago, and on Lap 23 of the Coca-Cola 600 a blown tire ended his day.

According to Beard — who compiles stats on every last place finish in Series history — this is the first time a driver has ever finished last in the All-Star race and Coca-Cola 600 in the same season.

Jones made history in Charlotte, although it’s not something he wants attached to his name, he’s still in the record books.
