Justin Haley Gets First Career Cup Series Win As Rain Ends Coke Zero Sugar 400 Early

Rain was a persistent threat all weekend long at Daytona International Speedway. After the Coke Zero Sugar 400 was rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday due to rain, the race was halted 33 laps from the finish and would not resume.

Justin Haley, driving the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Spire Motorsports, was in front when the red flag was displayed and has been awarded his first-career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory. Haley’s win comes in just his third-career start.

Haley inherited the lead, when Kurt Busch opted to pit under caution just before a lightning strike within eight miles of the speedway forced NASCAR’s hand to go to a red flag.

William Byron was second, Jimmie Johson finished third, Ty Dillon — got a career-best finish — came home fourth and Ryan Newman rounded out the top-five finishers.

Corey LaJoie finished a career-best sixth, Aric Almirola was seventh, Matt DiBenedetto scored his second top-10 in three races in eighth, Matt Tifft got his first-career top-10 finish in ninth and Kurt Busch wound up 10th.

Stage 1 was won by Joey Logano and Austin Dillon won Stage 2.

The race was marred by a 19-car pileup when Austin Dillon blocked Clint Bowyer for the lead going into turn one. Bowyer didn’t lift and Dillon careened across the track and into the field.
