Jamie McMurray, who retired from full-time NASCAR Cup Series competition following the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season, will get back behind the wheel during the NASCAR Cup Series season-opening Daytona 500 in the No. 77 Spire Motorsports entry.

The news was first reported by Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.

According to the report from Pockrass, the car will be prepared by Chip Ganassi Racing and the No. 77 will feature the colors of AdventHealth.

McMurray, 44, is a seven-time winner in the NASCAR Cup Series, including a triumph in the 2010 Daytona 500. The 2021 Daytona 500 will mark the 584th start of McMurray’s career.

In 2019, McMurray also ran the Daytona 500 in a Spire entry, which was prepared by CGR. McMurray started 16th that day and ended up finishing 22nd after his day came to a crashing halt.

McMurray will look for a better result this time, but regardless, it’ll be incredible to see the Missouri-native back behind the wheel for what could be his final time behind the wheel of a NASCAR Cup Series car.
