As the COVID-19 pandemic has put some sponsors and teams in a financial stranglehold, a longtime sponsor in the sport is leaving for the season as a result.

Hertz and Hendrick Motorsports have officially ended their relationship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The team confirmed earlier reports to TobyChristie.com

The car rental service and HMS announced a extension of their deal in October of 2019, giving Hertz a total of four races per season up until 2021.

Hertz, which served as the primary sponsor for the No. 24 at Phoenix in the spring, was scheduled to serve as the primary sponsor for this weekend’s race in Talladega, as well as the Charlotte Roval and Kansas Speedway.

In place of Hertz, HendrickCars.com will serve as the primary sponsor for Byron.

In recent weeks, the Hertz logo had disappeared from the sides of Byron’s No. 24 Camaro, but the logo remained on the team’s hauler.

The deal spawned a line of custom Camaro rental cars through Hertz with a special wrap job featuring the No. 24 and race-inspired decals.

Hertz first entered NASCAR in 2013 with Team Penske in the Xfinity Series , and spent nearly half a decade with the team before moving over to HMS.

Hertz filed for bankruptcy protection in May of 2020 as airline travel took a drastic plummet since the COVID-19 pandemic first began.
